Inside The Starline Factory: A Historic Industrial Wedding Venue in Harvard, Illinois
In the small town of Harvard, Illinois, sits one of the most unique wedding venues in northern Illinois β The Starline Factory.
At first glance, the massive brick building immediately tells you it has a story to tell. What was once a working industrial factory has now been thoughtfully transformed into a creative arts community and event venue while preserving the original character of the space.
For couples who love historic buildings, industrial architecture, and venues with personality, The Starline Factory offers something truly different from a traditional ballroom or barn venue.
During a recent visit, I had the chance to explore the venue and take a closer look at the spaces couples can use for their wedding celebrations.
The History Behind The Starline Factory
The Starline Factory dates back to the late 1800s, when it was originally built as a manufacturing facility during the height of the Midwestβs industrial expansion.
Over the decades, the building housed a variety of manufacturing operations, producing everything from agricultural equipment to industrial goods. Like many historic factories in the Midwest, the building was designed with durability in mind β thick brick walls, exposed timber beams, large factory windows, and wide open work floors.
Those same architectural elements that once supported heavy machinery and factory production are now what make the building so visually striking as an event space.
Rather than removing those historic features, the owners of The Starline Factory chose to restore and celebrate the buildingβs original character. Today the space has been reimagined as a creative community that includes artist studios, markets, performances, and events β including weddings.
Walking through the building today, you can still see the original factory bones everywhere:
exposed brick, vintage machinery pieces, wood beams, steel framework, and industrial details that tell the story of the buildingβs past.
A Creative Community and Event Venue
Today, The Starline Factory is much more than just a wedding venue.
The building has become a hub for artists, community events, markets, and creative spaces, giving the property a unique and lively atmosphere. Throughout the year, the venue hosts art shows, markets, performances, and gatherings that bring the local community together.
For couples, this means their wedding takes place in a space that already feels full of creativity and energy.
The venue offers several different event spaces throughout the building, allowing couples to design a wedding day that flows naturally from ceremony to cocktails to reception.
The Ferris Room
The Ferris Room is one of the primary reception spaces inside the building and beautifully showcases the venueβs industrial charm.
Original timber columns stretch across the room supporting exposed beams and skylights above. During the day, natural light fills the space, while in the evening the glow of cafΓ© lights creates a warm and romantic atmosphere.
The open floor plan gives couples flexibility when designing their reception layout. There is plenty of room for dining tables, dancing, and creative seating arrangements.
One of the best parts about this room is that the architecture itself acts as dΓ©cor. The brick walls, wood beams, and historic textures already create a beautiful backdrop for a celebration.
The Helm Room
Another beautiful event space inside the venue is the Helm Room.
Like the Ferris Room, the Helm Room features exposed brick walls, wood columns, and historic architectural details that highlight the buildingβs past.
Large windows bring in natural light, and cafΓ© lights strung across the ceiling add warmth to the space. The room can easily be used for a reception, cocktail hour, or additional gathering space depending on the wedding layout.
This space feels authentic and welcoming, giving couples the opportunity to host their celebration in a venue filled with history and character.
The 1883 Room
Another beautiful space inside the venue is the 1883 Room, named for the year the original factory building was constructed.
This room highlights the historic character of the building with exposed brick walls, wood beams, industrial columns, and vintage architectural details that reflect the buildingβs past. The space has a warm and inviting atmosphere while still maintaining the industrial charm that makes The Starline Factory so unique.
One feature couples often love about the 1883 Room is the vintage bar and balcony area, which adds depth and visual interest to the room. The layout allows for a variety of event setups, making it a flexible space for receptions, cocktail hours, or other parts of a wedding celebration.
Like the other rooms in the building, the 1883 Room offers a beautiful balance of historic character and creative possibility, giving couples a space that already feels full of personality before any dΓ©cor is added.
The Charles E. Hunt Chapel
For couples planning to host both their ceremony and reception in one location, The Starline Factory also offers a beautiful ceremony space known as the Charles E. Hunt Chapel.
This dedicated chapel sits within the historic building and provides a warm, intimate setting for wedding ceremonies. The space features exposed brick walls, wood ceilings, and classic wooden pew seating that reflects the buildingβs historic character.
One of the most striking elements of the chapel is the vintage pipe organ, which creates a dramatic focal point at the front of the room. Soft draping frames the ceremony backdrop, allowing couples to personalize the space while still maintaining the historic charm of the venue.
The combination of warm wood, natural brick, and historic details creates a ceremony space that feels both meaningful and timeless.
For couples who want their ceremony to feel personal, intimate, and rooted in history, the Charles E. Hunt Chapel is a beautiful option inside The Starline Factory.
The Atrium
One of the most unforgettable parts of The Starline Factory is the Atrium.
This incredible indoor greenhouse features a soaring glass ceiling supported by steel beams and filled with lush greenery. The space feels like stepping into a hidden botanical garden inside the historic factory walls.
Natural light pours in from above while plants and greenery fill the space at every level.
The atrium creates a beautiful setting for cocktail hour, photos, or simply a place for guests to explore during the wedding celebration.
Itβs a space that truly highlights what makes this venue so special β the combination of industrial architecture and natural beauty.
